About the Author

Constance Wannamaker is a licensed immigration attorney and founder and CEO of C.R. Wannamaker Law. She has built a business dedicated to advocacy, human rights and life-changing outcomes for the individuals and families she serves.

An ultramarathon runner, Constance brings the same endurance, discipline and mental resilience required to run races into her work as an entrepreneur and leader.

Built for the Long Run: The Mindset That Sustains Leaders Through Fear, Growth and Scale is her first book.

About the Book

Constance Wannamaker wasn't sure she could run 100 miles until the moment she passed mile 90 and realized she was still running. That moment taught her something fundamental: accomplishment isn’t about hitting a single goal; it’s about creating the mindset that keeps you going long after you think you’re done.

After leaving a failing marriage with debt and uncertainty, Wannamaker set out to rebuild from the ground up. What began as a goal for financial stability evolved into a far bigger vision—one driven not by money, but by purpose, resilience and the courage to think beyond limits.

Today, she is a multi-million-dollar business owner who built her law practice on the same psychology that she applies to ultramarathoning. Built for the Long Run isn’t about “manifesting” in the abstract—it’s about developing the entrepreneur mindset for success and doing the work that makes goals real.

Three athletes sprinting on a track with long shadows.

Through lessons from ultrarunning, leadership and entrepreneurship, Wannamaker shows that you can change mindsets by:

  • accepting and leveraging your vulnerabilities
  • taking decisive, consistent action—one step at a time
  • focusing on growth beyond the next milestone
  • surrounding yourself with people who challenge and elevate you
  • building discipline that outlasts motivation

This book is for anyone ready to stop thinking small, build lasting success and develop the mindset needed to achieve more than they ever thought possible.

Discussion Questions

How does this challenge the way you currently think about your own goals? What would your vision look like if you removed the limits you've placed on it?

How have your own formative hardships influenced your relationship with risk and ambition? Do you see those experiences as liabilities or assets?

Both involve long stretches of discomfort, ups and downs and the temptation to quit. What "long race" are you running in your own life and how do you manage the moments when you want to stop?

She argues that fear never disappears; you just do it anyway. Do you agree? Is there a difference between healthy fear and fear that should stop you?

How do you distinguish between a genuine opportunity aligned with your vision and a distraction? What criteria do you use?

How intentional are you about cultivating your network as a resource— not just for socializing, but for the people and opportunities you'll need in the future?

What does it feel like to admit a significant weakness and how have you handled it? Have you ever let pride or ego keep you from getting the help you needed?

What non-financial measures of success resonate most with you—in your work or personal life—and why?

What does their courage reveal about the excuses we make for staying stuck? Are there areas in your life where you suspect fear is disguising itself as a practical obstacle?

If you did that exercise right now, what would come up? What's the version of your life you haven't let yourself fully picture—and what's stopping you?
